The Fortune 500 companies lose an estimated $31.5bn a year by failing, internally, to share knowledge. This colossal sum stacks up through a number of outcomes resulting from hiding knowledge: the loss of innovation that might just make the edge over the competitors, undisclosed information needed for key decisions, eroded motivation among the workforce leading to under-performance, in-house distrust and the creation of silos and clans among the workforce that ultimately leads to non-cooperation and a stale working atmosphere.
