For a bright New Normal, welcome to the high-summer 2020 issue of the Council on Business & Society’s Global Voice magazine #14! For the June issue of Global Voice magazine, we traditionally bring together both faculty and student research and opinion from the schools in the Council on Business & Society.
Dear Readers,
As we indeed know, we’ve all been though – or are still enduring – one of the most astonishing moments of our lives and one could even say – of modern history. Global Voice #14 reflects the issues and anxieties we have faced. As well as the major debates that have emerged as a result of the pandemic. And it also offers the hope of a “New Normal” that is brighter, more equal and more understanding of our planet.
Our Past, Present and bright New Normal

So will the favouring of efficiency over effectiveness continue to shape our world as it has done for the last 40 years? How will healthcare systems get the investment and support they require from government and the private sector?
To what extent will a new form of globalisation settle in? Will international cooperation and understanding as global citizens take the precedent over the fears and distrust fuelled by populism?
And finally, will our awareness of the benefits to the environment that lockdown produced – a 17% three-month drop in pollution levels worldwide (World Economic Forum) – encourage us to make those difficult though necessary changes in our systems and in ourselves to help get Mother Nature back on the path to full health?
These are the questions that a bright New Normal depend on.
Just do it. And how?

Ultimately, is it us – the thought and knowledge included in this magazine, the people behind it and you, our readers – who have the choice and the influence. Firstly, for a bright New Normal, we can do this through our mindset and behaviour. Secondly, through our choices as consumers. Thirdly, we can do it through our votes and opinion. And finally, we can do it through education.
Look sharp, be sharp, be bright New Normal
So, pop along to the local store (not forgetting your mask) or shop online, and fit yourself out with a new set of clothes for the bright New Normal you’d like to see.

To sum up, a snappy set of togs – much as the tailor-made shirt on the front cover. That you can wear for a world of equality between women and men. Inclusiveness at work and in society for both the able and disabled whatever our colour and culture. Health of mind and fulfilment in our jobs. Leadership and business practices that work for both the organisation and the wider community. And lastly, a new deal and closer relationship between people and our beautiful planet.
Enjoy your reading. And safe keeping!
